Japanese Acupuncture

Japanese Style

The Chinese brought acupuncture to Japan in the fifth century A.D. Before that, all acupuncture knowledge came through Korea.

In the Japanese healing traditions, the stimulation of the acupuncture points by either acupuncture or moxibustion must be done in a very gentle way.

The Japanese style of acupuncture has a unique needle which is quite thin in comparison with the Traditional Chinese Medicine style needles. Also, the Japanese style of acupuncture uses very shallow needle insertion (as little as 1mm). People who are afraid of needles often prefer the Japanese style of acupuncture because of the very subtle needle stimulation.

The Japanese style of moxibustion, in contrast with the Chinese style, is directly on the patient's skin.
